When considering your online presence lets pretend your school has just released a special promotional video on cat juggling! This is your bribe for a new course you’re launching.
You optimise the site for ‘cat juggling’ as a keyword. Jo Public Google’s ‘cat juggling’ and up pops your site. Great huh? He sees your free video bribe, opts in to your list and you now have him in the ‘funnel’ to become a customer. That’s your quality lead. He wanted cat juggling and he’s found it with you. Now if he’s local you can enrol him into your new cat juggling class or if he’s too far away sell him your online courses, videos, e-books etc etc
The thing with this approach is that you need to look at costs in advance. Lets say your Google Ads were going to cost you 0.50 pence per click and you got 10 per day that would be £5.00 per day. Lets say you ran the campaign for a month; the cost would be £150 for a 30-day month.
So how many people need to buy? If you’re selling a 6-week downloadable video course priced at £150 you need to sell one to break even.
So out of 300 people that clicked on your ad you need to persuade one to buy. Now you can look at sorting out the conversion rate of your opt in page (the place where they land having clicked your ad). The better you make the copy here, the more conversions you’ll get.
Let’s consider a 10% conversion. Low but good. That’s 30 people spending £150 each, that’s £4,500.00. Not bad and fairly serious profit I hope you agree!
But how about if you got the cost per click down as well? More profit.
So the things to consider in planning this are:
- Bribe. What’s your free stuff going to be?
- Traffic source. PPC, Banner ads, traditional ads for your website?
- Method of monetisation. How will you get the money?
That's what we'll be discussing next time along with the all-important: building the list mechanics. (look out for the video following this too!)
Later guys!
